A visual novel is a story told in pictures and text. You read a line at a time, the characters stand in front of a painted background, and now and then the story asks you to choose. Choices open routes; routes lead to endings. Some volumes have a dozen endings and some have one, but all of them are read rather than played. This is the main shelf of the reading room, and everything else on the site is a way of sorting it.
