Questions readers ask

What is on these shelves?

Adult visual novels and story-driven games listed on Lewdzone: anything tagged as a visual novel or kinetic novel, plus everything made with Ren’Py, the engine most of these stories are written in. Around 8,000 volumes are shelved; the 2,500 that readers open most often have a page of their own here.

What does “read in browser” mean?

Some stories have a browser version on Xgame9, our sister site. Those volumes carry a mint bookmark on the shelf and a “Read in browser on Xgame9” button on their page. Nothing to install; the story opens in a new page on Xgame9.

Where do downloads come from?

Every volume links to its page on Lewdzone, which hosts the builds and the download links. PlayAVN keeps no files of its own.

How are “short reads” and “long reads” decided?

By the size of the download. Stories under 300 MB are shelved as short reads; stories over 2 GB are long reads. Size is a rough proxy for length, but on this shelf it is a useful one: big builds usually mean many chapters, many plates, or both.

Are the stories finished?

Each spine says. “Finished” means the developer has marked the story complete. “In progress” means chapters are still being added; the flyleaf shows the latest version and when it changed. “Paused” and “abandoned” mean what they say.

Which languages are the stories in?

The catalogue we build from does not record languages, so we do not claim any. Check the story’s page on Lewdzone or Xgame9 before you start.

Why is a story missing?

Some games never reach these shelves: anything excluded by our content rules, anything without a working listing on Lewdzone, and games that are not visual novels or Ren’Py stories. Search on Lewdzone directly if you are looking for something outside the reading room.
