Unity is a general game engine, so the visual novels built with it look less alike than Ren’Py stories do. Developers choose it when they want something Ren’Py makes hard: a custom interface, real-time 3D scenes, animated characters, a map to walk around, or mini-games between chapters. The cost is size and the odd rough edge; the reward is a story that feels designed rather than assembled. Builds are usually Windows first, with Mac and Android less common.
